The Solano Coalition for Better Health (the Coalition) is a nonprofit organization comprised of health care providers, community organizations, and neighborhood advocates committed to improving access to health care and improving the health of underserved populations. Since its inception in 1988, the Coalition has developed many successful community programs and effective partnerships that have improved the health of Solano County residents.
The Solano Coalition for Better Health promotes innovative strategies to address health and wellness in our community by emphasizing leadership, partnership, and unifying resources to achieve these major goals:
Goal 1: Assure access to quality health care
- Increase the percentage of Solano residents who have health insurance.
- Increase the percentage of Solano residents who have access to a primary care physician.
- Decrease identified barriers to access to health care.
Goal 2: Eliminate racial and ethnic disparities in health status
- Reduce disparity in breast cancer mortality rates.
- Reduce disparity in prostate cancer mortality rates among African Americans and others.
- Decrease disparities of rates of preventable complications from diabetes.
- Monitor disparities in health status using selected indicators.
- Support safety net providers.
- Empower, support, and equip community-based organizations serving communities of color and other underserved groups to become self -supporting.
Goal 3: Promote community and individual wellness
- Increase the number and diversity of community members who are engaged in cooperative efforts to improve the quality of the life in their community.
- Partner with others to promote community health.
- Successfully advocate for health policies and actions that improve the health status of the community.
- Increase community health promotion and disease prevention practices.
