A huge thank you goes out to the Solano Community Foundation for granting the Dixon High School Arts & Design Academy a $500 Education Plus! Mini-Grant to help fund our annual community service project.
This year, 60 students from Dixon High School and more than 100 sixth-graders from Anderson Elementary School will participate in a Carnaval del Mundo "trip around the world," through a half-day cultural event that highlights seven countries.
The seven countries in this year's Carnaval del Mundo were featured in the Academy's community book selection, Eric Weiner's "The Geography of Bliss" (purchased through grant money provided by the Dixon Community Education Foundation). They are the Netherlands, Switzerland, Qatar, Bhutan, Iceland, Thailand and Great Britain.
Funding from the Solano Community Foundation's Mini-Grant program is the lifeblood of our community service project. Without the support of our Solano donors, we would lose a valuable annual event that both showcases our students' talents in the arts and sciences and also provides a bridge between elementary and secondary education. Through this project, sixth-grade students are able to generate a goal for themselves in high school: to participate in one of the many challenging and engaging academies on the Dixon High School campus.
We thank our sponsors for helping to plant a seed for success in so many students each year.
