As a teacher at Cordelia Hills Elementary School, I'd like to say thanks to the Solano Community Foundation, the Advocates for the Arts, Frank H. and Eva B. Buck Foundation, Board of Supervisors John M. Vasquez, WestAmerica Bancorp, Dey Solano Giving Fund, and Mortimer Schwartz's Beacon Fund for once again partnering to make mini-grants available to Solano County school teachers.
The funds have been such an addition to our daily math program. The goal of my grant was to ask for money to purchase ongoing activities which would allow for a cooperative exchange of ideas and investigations among the students which would support our standards-based math curriculum. It is one thing to teach the mathematical concepts, and there are so many in second grade, but mainly to offer activities which will help students extend their conceptual thinking by applying those concepts in real life situations. These materials have afforded such a valuable extension to this learning.
It is so gratifying to know that such funds exist to assist with projects that might have taken much longer to accomplish as effectively.
Thank you to all the partners of the Education Plus! Mini-Grant Program.
