Workshops & Training: Nonprofit Partnership Program Module

NPP 1: Connecting with the Media Part II

Getting your organization's story into the news media should not be a mystifying experience. Because you are competing against others who want coverage in the limited pages of local newspapers and limited airtime of local radio, you need creativity, energy and hard work. This workshop will help your organization get its story told in the news media by learning the tools necessary to convey your story successfully. Trainer: Andrea E. Garcia

NPP 2: Board Roles and Responsibilities

Geared for nonprofit Executive Directors and Board members, this session provides information about effective nonprofit Boards and what makes them work well together and further the mission and vision of their organization. Participants will see how to identify and troubleshoot problem areas and affect solutions. The session uses the Carver Model to teach a highly successful construct of Board roles and responsibilities and is presented in an interactive and experiential format. NPP 3: What Funders Want and How to Give it to Them Part II

This interactive, fully-participatory training will teach nonprofit Board and staff members the reasons foundations and other private funders decline or accept proposals. Participants will explore what makes funders pay attention or not particularly care, why some organizations consistently get grants and others don’t, and other “inside information” about how foundation boards make decisions. This workshop will provide information that can change the way grantseekers think about development and how to incorporate this knowledge into fundraising efforts. Trainer: Stephanie Wolf.

NPP 5: Logic Modeling and Evaluation

Program operations and evaluation can be greatly strengthened by the development of a logic model that captures program strategies and unpacks them as distinct elements such as inputs, outputs, outcomes, and impacts.  A Logic Model is a tool that will help you to articulate what your program is trying to achieve and how you expect to achieve it.  The goal of this workshop is to move your organization beyond the evaluation jargon and build your ability to create a logic model for your organization.  This three-hour training will give you a ‘hands on’ experience so that you 1) understand the core elements of a logic model, 2) are familiar with the uses of logic models, i.e. for program development, evaluation planning and communication and marketing, and 3) begin to articulate the strategies for change that drives your work.

NPP 6: New Media for Nonprofits

As new tools of technology proliferate, nonprofits face a dizzying array of platforms for getting their message out -- websites, blogs, Twitter, YouTube, social networks such as Facebook, etc. This workshop helps identify the defining characteristics of this New Media -- its disregard for time, space and authority -- and discusses how individual nonprofits can select the flavor (or flavors) of New Media best suited to their needs. Special attention will be paid to the practical know-how needed to implement these New Media technologies. Trainer: Shawn Miller.

Workshop information and materials provided will relate to the annnual accounting cycle and financial management activities required of Nonprofit organizations. Topics will include budgeting, bookkeeping, creating financial statements, creating internal controls and financial analysis.
