SEVEN CITIES FUND’S GRANTS
During crises and natural disasters, we often think about giving nationally, or even internationally. When Hurricanes Katrina and Rita ravaged the Gulf Coast, and when the Asian tsunamis devastated Indonesia, giving in the United States rose dramatically. It’s a natural human response to want to help, resulting in an outpouring of concern, compassion, and financial resources.
Yet, many of us remember the popular expression, “Think globally, act locally.” It urges us to look closer to home for solutions to broad problems and to give within our own community. At the Solano Community Foundation, our community foundation, we pay particular attention to that idea and do act locally every day.
In keeping with this mission, and furthering the idea of local giving, the Solano Community Foundation has established The Seven Cities Fund; a cluster of seven different funds, one for each of the cities of Solano County:
The Foundation has seeded each of these funds with $1,000 and we want these local funds to grow. At the end of each calendar year, the Foundation plans to match contributions made to these Funds during the year, earmarking monies for the specific city targeted by the donations. Once a particular City Fund reaches $5,000, we will make a grant to a qualified nonprofit organization serving the people of that city. Your money will be doubled to support projects and programs in your community; whichever city that might be.
You are familiar with your town, you know its problems, and you can be part of the solution. Every dollar is welcome, and every contribution will go toward your town’s betterment. You can make a difference in your own local community.
Give to your city’s Fund at the Foundation. Let’s do this together to make each of our communities the best they can be.
