Foundation Directory Online

Cooperating collection

The Foundation Directory Online, a component resource of the Cooperating Collection, is housed at the Solano Community Foundation and is an information center for the community. It consists of a very large, easily accessible database and printed materials that assist the staff and Board members of nonprofit organizations who need on-target information and training to become more successful grantseekers and operate more effective organizations. There are three computer Foundation Directory Online (FDO) workstations dedicated to the Collection, including printers.

FACTS ABOUT THE FOUNDATION DIRECTORY ONLINE
The Foundation Directory Online opened on March 14, 2006, is housed at the Foundation’s offices at 1261 Travis Boulevard, Suite 320 (on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue). It is free to use. FDO is currently open to the public Monday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. FDO is closed on holidays. Foundation staff members are available to assist users.

HOW THE FOUNDATION DIRECTORY ONLINE HELPS GRANTSEEKERS:

  • The online database contains extensive information on more than 90,000 private foundations and corporate grantmakers.
  • You can use the Foundations File, viewing records that describe foundations and their fields of interest, all presented in a standardized format, easy to read and navigate.
  • You can look in the Grants File, with over 900,000 listed grants, allowing you to search records that describe recipients and their grants.
  • You can use the 990 Search, with over 380,000 searchable 990PF forms, to learn about funders and who they fund, by using text and key words.
  • The database includes links to many of the funders’ own websites with specific information on their guidelines, deadlines, contact information, and sample grants.
  • In addition, there are exclusive funder portfolios featuring news, requests for proposals, key staff affiliations, printable color charts illustrating grant distributions, and more.
  • FDO is complemented by the Cooperating Collection of printed materials, including directories, funding guides, periodicals, and books on subjects of interest to nonprofit professionals.

You can visit the Foundation Directory Center's databases, or find more information at www.foundationcenter.org.

Solano Community Foundation Library has a listing of hard copy materials within the Foundation office that can be used for nonprofit research.

"The Foundation Directory Online is a tremendous resource, a hidden treasure, and it's easy to use! There are many funders just waiting to hear from each of us. I'm grateful to Solano Community Foundation for providing all the knowledge and resource right here in our own backyard with little or or no expense. Thank you for this gift!"

We want to acknowledge the substantial underwriting support of United Way of the Bay Area. Their Community Capacity Building grant for our workshops and training program is a fine example of the working partnership between the two institutions.
