Foundation Directory Online

SCF, a Funding Information Network (FIN) partner of the Foundation Center since March of 2006, has three computer workstations and printers with dedicated access to Foundation Center resources (FDO, GTIO, Maps and GrantSpace). Our FIN work center also houses a modest collection of books, publications, and nonprofit literature.

SCF staff members are available to help familiarize and assist users with the FDO website content and search process. For new users, a brief online or in-person orientation is necessary to become familiar with the FC online resources. Appointment times are available Tuesdays from 10:00 am until noon, on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, and Thursdays from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm. Feel free to call 707-399-3846 for specific questions about setting up an appointment.

Established in 1956, Foundation Center is the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide. Through data, analysis, and training, it connects people who want to change the world to the resources they need to succeed. Foundation Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. and, increasingly, global grantmakers and their grants — a robust, accessible knowledge bank for the sector. It also operates research, education, and training programs designed to advance knowledge of philanthropy at every level. Thousands of people visit Foundation Center's website each day and are served in its five regional hubs and its network of more than 400 funding information centers located in public libraries, community foundations, and educational institutions nationwide and around the world.

Funding Information Network partners can be found in all 50 U.S. states and in multiple countries worldwide. Network partners serve nonprofits by providing funding information about grantmakers, offering training and programs related to fundraising and nonprofit management, and actively reaching out to underserved organizations within their community to connect them to these key resources. Network partners also provide resources for artists and students.  Click on this link to learn more about the features of Candid's Foundation Directory

  • Grantmaker profiles provide a powerful summary overview of the funder's work along with all the pertinent details fundraisers need to find and approach great prospects.
  • With information on more than 242,000+ grantmakers, Candid’s Foundation Directory can help you find the funders you don't know yet. The majority of these grantmakers do not have websites and would otherwise be almost impossible to find.
  • The data in Foundation Directory is compiled from IRS Forms 990 and 990-PF, grantmaker websites, annual reports, printed application guidelines, the philanthropic press, and various other sources. Candid's staff continually monitor countless data sources to verify that their information is up to date.
  • Candid's Foundation Center is also in frequent communication with grantmakers nationwide. Hundreds of funders from the US (and around the world) share their grants data with them directly so they can quickly update Foundation Directory Online without having to wait for the IRS to release the latest Forms 990.
