This fund will primarily benefit women and men (residents of Solano, Napa, and Yolo counties) to provide funding for breast cancer education, detection, and support.
Bosom Buddies of Solano County (BBSC) was originally established in 1999 as a grass roots all volunteer organization to heighten awareness of women's health issues, develop a network of information and supprt, and generate funds for local breast cancer programs and patiient-outreach services. Monies were raised via quilt auctions, golf tournaments, rummage sales, and donations. Small grants have funded breast cancer support groups at NorthBay and Travis AFB, provided mammogram funds for Planned Parenthood in Napa, helped with copays, and supported national organizations such as ACS, Susan B. Komen, Dr. Susan Love, and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Through the spring of 2022, BBSC was fiscally sponsored and operating under the 501c3 umbrella of the Marti Nelson Cancer Research Foundation, which has since dissolved.
